Duro Olowu : Spring/Summer 2014 Collection Lookbook

Duro-Olowu-Spring-Summer-2014-Collection-BellaNaija-August2013001-400x600

Duro has done it again! Giving us a sneak peek at all the fashion goodness to expect in the Summer of 2014, Nigerian fashion designer Duro Olowu presents his 2014 Ready To Wear Spring/Summer Collection.

The collection goes crazy with colourful prints in eye popping colours and light & delicate silhouettes that would make the 2014 Summer fashion a breeze. Showcasing his signature patchworks, the pieces from the collection range from dramatic capes to beautiful floral print dresses. According to the designer he wanted to create pieces that were “not too bare, or too short, or too long, that could be worn layered or on its own, and that had a bias-cut fit that just brushed the body“.

For some reason I think Eku Edewor would rock the 5th piece perfectly, what do you think?

Think Michelle Obama in fitted leather pants, or a Lagos fashionista in a sultry floor length gown on the red carpet. The defined waisted siren screams “there is a new muse in town and she is here to stay!” She is ready to strip men of any shred of dominance with her tender yet independent attitude. Neat silhouettes, sexy heels, slim and sleek pencil skirts, she shows you the importance of power pencil skirts. Her spirit lingers in the 40s. This modern day Iconic Invanity woman brings to the table a vintage vavavoom that has long been lacking in our wardrobes.

Nancy Nwadire, Creative Director of Iconic Invanity never seizes to up the ante with every collection!

High Heels: Avoid Those Blisters!

Jimmy Choo. Manolo Blahnik. Christian Louboutin. If these names mean nothing to you, then you’re obviously not a fan of the high-heeled shoe. Many women say you can’t have too many pairs of shoes. High heels make you look taller and give the illusion of longer, slimmer legs. Plus, many people simply find them fashionable.

Christian Louboutin Highness POT Pourri Strass Crystal Gold

Wearing stiletto heels allows you to wear confidence in style while looking amazing. Women look amazingly sexy in high heels as they often display the look of long lean legs and exaggerated sexy curves while also giving the appearance of looking slimmer. Walking in stiletto heels takes some getting used to which is why we complied this list to help you on your way to wearing stiletto shoes in style!

  • Start small, with low heels and baby steps- literally. Move your way up to higher heels slowly.
  • Pace back and forth, jump around carefully, walk, jog, even dance in your stiletto heels a bit to make sure they are comfortable and you are getting the hang of walking and living in them.
  • Walk on lots of different surfaces and outdoor pavements with your heels. Try thick carpets, wooden floors, concrete, brick sidewalks. Be very careful to watch the cracks so you don’t twist your ankle.
  • Practice using the stairs… again very carefully. Place your entire foot on each step as you walk down the steps, but only place the ball of your foot on each step as you go up. Hold onto that railing gracefully, just in case.
  • If your stiletto heels are very high and have support around the entire foot you could try to add some cushion liners on the inside to make them fit firmer and give more cushioning to your feet. If your heels have little support or are strappy sandal types try to find some with a wider heel to make up for this.
  • Once you are comfortable walking around in your stiletto heels for a while you can try higher heels, thicker pumps, and thinner heels. Just remember to care for your feet after you are done walking in heels. Let them rest up on a pillow and if you are lucky see if you can get a nice foot rub otherwise a nice soak in a warm tub of water also works great.
