Fashion protege – Episode 3

The 10 contestants are faced with two tasks this week that test their business minds and their styling capabilities!

The First Task: The British Council Business Challenge. To be a successful designer, your business plan has to be on point! Contestants are asked to prepare and present their business plans for their brands to the judges. The winner of the challenge gets to attend a Fashion Business course sponsored by the British Council.

The judges for the challenge wanted contestants to show focus, knowledge of the sector and present a functional business model with the ability to grow.  Some contestants delivered on the brief, while others failed to articulate their business plans and landed at the bottom!

The second task: The Styling Challenge.

Contestants are put to the test and  attempt to tell the story behind their creations through accessorizing and creating great visual presentations. A-list Nollywood Producer, Actress and Style Icon, Stephanie Linus and renowned Celebrity Stylist, Ebun Aboderin join Mentors Mai Atafo and Lanre Da Silva-Ajayi as judges. The winning contestant gets to dress Stephanie Linus  for an event!

The first contestant to face the judges is Ayodeji, who styled his short-sleeved shirt and pants with casual sandals and a collection of string bead bracelets.

Second contestant: Grace styled her evening dress which featured a lace skirt and stripped top with beaded sleeves with simple earrings and black shoes. She failed to impress the judges with her styling skills and landed in the bottom four.

Third contestant: Antoinette styled her silver lace cocktail dress with black shoes and studs. Her styling decsions were safe and  did not paricularly impress the judges, so last week’s challenge winner found herself struggling to stay in the competition as one of the bottom four.

Fourth contestant: Tolani styled her red high-neck evening dress with black shoes, chandelier earrings and a bracelet. Her choice for earrings did not go well with the judges and she landed in the bottom four and was eventually eliminated.

Fifth contestant: Elvis showcased acocktail dress which was a hit with the judges but they coul not get past the statement necklace he styled it with that distracted  from the dress. This was his second time in a row in the bottom four.  He did not survive this time around and  was eliminated.

Elvis-Styling-Challenge-600x336Next: Omon thoroughly impressed the judges and won the challenge! Her futurist ankara blouse and pencil skirt was styled with a waist cinching black belt with a gold metal plate detail, black shoes and studs!

Omon-Styling-Challenge-600x336Next: Oluwatobi styled her black velvet vintage inspired dress which featured a silver embroidered sleeve detail with green shoes, a mustard clutch and silver jewellery.

Fashion Protege —— Episode 2

The Top 12 contestants are faced with their first task in the competition to create a garment inspired by the Brazilian sultry dance, Samba within a short time frame!

With an inspiration like that, one should expect a creative explosion of colours, rich textures and fluid fabrics! And did we get that? We certainly did, as contestants gave it their best! The judges were left amazed with the great execution by contestants and with others, who eventually made the bottom four, they were left confused and disappointed.

The Kimye Wedding

The long awaited wedding between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West took place this past weekend. They had the most amazing rehearsal dinner at the elegant Palace of Versailles in Paris on Friday, May 23. The couple wore matching Maison Martin Margiela outfits.

Image

Saturday the 24th of May was the D-day. The reality TV star and rapper tied the knot in the presence of close friends and family in Florence, Italy. The ceremony was held at Forte di Belvedere, a 16th century era fortress atop a hill near the Arno river.

All we got was a glimpse of the wedding dress and it looked fab!!!

ImageKim wore Givenchy. Her close friend and designer Riccardo Tisci, who attended the wedding, was responsible for creating Kim’s breathtaking gown.

The groom also wore Givenchy, as did the couple’s 11-month-old daughter North. Kanye wore a custom wedding tuxedo and baby North wore a custom Haute Couture dress matching Kim’s.
