Shakara Couture: Ewemade Erhabor-Emokpae

Founded in 2004, the Shakara Couture Label is a family-run business with a design team led by the creative director Ewemade Erhabor-Emokpae.
On attainment of her Law degree from the University of Lagos, she sought to follow her passion and attended the London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins to be professionally trained in millinery, dress-making, fashion illustration and personal styling.

The label is recognized for being heavily influenced by vintage glamour. The style of the house is inspired by the timeless elegance and fashion of the 1920s to the 1950s; a time where flattery of the female form was celebrated as the focal point of design. It is a fusion of African and Western vintage fashion using African tribal print, tie and dye, Lace, Embroidery and beadwork.

Models graced the runway with her pieces at the fashion show, Music Meets Runway, in  2012.  Recently,  Zainab Balogun and Toke Makinwa wore Shakara Couture outfits to the Ebonylife TV Launch.

Christie Brown: Dure

Christie Brown is a Ghanaian based luxury women’s fashion brand that aims to satisfy the stylish urge of “that modern woman who seeks a true taste of Africa”.  Christie Brown’s  new lookbook is titled Dure, the Autumn/Winter 2013 collection is a breath of fresh air as the designer gently moves away from the very bold “African Prints” textiles to more ravishing print designs. This season she plays on the strength of structured silhouette with femininity in color and detail choice. By mixing the earth-tone color based traditional bogolan fabric and softer hues of blush, purple and teal, the complimentary contrast of hard and soft really comes to life. Yvonne Nelson’s “House of Gold” Premiere

Yvonne Nelson’s much anticipated movie, House of Gold premiered on Friday at the Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos. Mai Atafo, a celebrity designer based in Lagos, Nigeria designed her beautiful sheer lace cut out mermaid black dress. The dress was accessorized with a gold bracelet and ring.
The dress had a mix of rose-embellished satin and sequin for the other half of the dress  that just made her glow that evening. I love Mai Atafo’s work and ingenuity! She really dazzled that evening. Also, Venita Akpofure, the video vixen, wore a black chiffon princess black dress that evening. She looked beautiful too.
I just wonder who you think looked more gorgeous.

Style Me: What to wear to a Wedding- Brights and Maxis

It is wedding season here in Nigeria and in many parts of  Europe and we at fashpa.com HQ think the way to go is well long. We recommend going for a  longer length dress especially for evening parties or where it is black tie wedding. It’s one of the best opportunities to wear a more sophisticated dress and stand out from the sea of knee length dresses. So we have a gorgeous pink maxi that is coming into our online store and when I came across this belted orange maxi from tiger tem, it reminded me of it. Like our pink maxi dress it’s one of those flattering and forgiving dresses and I guarantee you we have it at a great price too. We love the colors and accessories. Now all you have to do is catch the bouquet!

Style Feature: Temi DollFace

She is sensational, talented and has a striking sense of style. Temi Dollface is a singer, songwriter, composer, performer, metaphor-obsessed ranter, Visionary, future Style-Icon.These are but a few words to describe Temi who pushes beyond cliche to create a bold, witty, groundbreaking sound that’s off-the beaten track and completely her own.

As a songwriter, Temi a.k.a’Temi DollFace’ is fast establishing a reputation for her music and songwriting skills, its her style thats has captivated us at fashpa HQ.

Her style can be described as playful mix of colours, vintage and old school elegance. Its not for the faint hearted but on its completely 100% Temi Doll face and sticks out in a city like Lagos.  She styles everything in her music and photo shoots herself and fun fact even makes some of the clothes her band members wear! We have put together our favorite looks from Temi Doll Face.
